Would you be surprised to hear that migraine symptoms are connected to the body being out of balance? Do you know the FIVE MAJOR AREAS that are typically affected?

1. Toxin-Detoxing Balance.

You can't completely avoid toxins; they are in everything from the air you breathe to the packaging of things that you buy to the very food you eat. And your body is equipped to process a lot of toxins on a daily basis. But when you take in more than your body can handle, you can end up with a migraine. What can you do? Start by avoiding additives in food, particularly excitotoxins like MSG and MSG-types. (MSG leads not just to migraine symptoms but also to other kinds of nerve damage.) This means you need to look out for yourself: check the ingredients in every prepared food before you eat it. Why? MSG is allowed to hide under about 80 different ingredient names as innocent-soundng as 'spices,' 'natural flavoring' 'spices' 'hydrolyzed vegetable protein' etc.


2. Acid-Alkaline Balance.

Help your body to stay in the slightly alkaline state it is healthiest and works best in. Lots of acids in your body's tissues lead to irritated nerve endings and produce all of the pains characteristic of migraine symptoms. What helps? Eat more foods that are alkaline-forming and fewer foods that are acid-forming. In general (there are exceptions): raw, fresh vegetables and fruits are alkaline-forming; meats, fishes, grains are acid-forming.

3. Enzyme Balance.

Enzymes help digest food (fats, proteins, carbohydrates) so your body can use it. Enzymes also speed up (or catalyze) virtually every single chemical reaction in your body so you can live (breathe, walk, talk, think, etc.) Enzymes also clear the body of toxins that lead to painful migraine symptoms. Raw foods are rich in enzymes; heat (cooking) destroys enzymes. So, eat as many foods as you can in their raw, natural state. This means eating raw fruits, vegetables, and the sprouted form (this is easy to produce) of seeds, nuts and grains.

4. Water Balance

It is important to replace the water you lose every day in breathing, sweating, elimination, etc. This can mean up to around 6-8 glasses a day. (Use your good judgement about what is the right amount for you to drink.) Make sure you also replace the salt you lose (in perspiration, etc.) Don't think this isn't important. Think of your insides as a nice fish tank -- What happens when you don't replace the water? Water helps to transport vital things like oxygen and nutrients; and it plays an active role in digestion and energy production. Many authorities on water recommend that you drink water not just as a preventative, but at the first sign of migraine syptoms.

5. Emotional Balance.

This might be the most importat step of all. What you think affects how you feel affects how your body operates. Everything is connected. For example: You could have the best diet, carefully alkaline-balanced, with good organic raw foods, etc. But if you have one really angry or stressful episode -- poof! You've acidified your body and started a chain reaction of migraine symptoms. Another example: The most commonly reported complaints prior to the onset of a migraine are stress and negative emotions. Practice relaxing your body, in particular your face, jaw and eyes. Keep your shoulders, neck and head relaxed. Avoid grinding and clenching your teeth, and frowning.
